GLA is essential for smooth, healthy skin and female hormonal balance. GLA has been researched for its ability to relieve PMS, reduce inflammation in arthritis, lower cholesterol, and help reverse diabetic neuropathy. With the help of the delta-6-desaturase (D6D) enzyme, our body makes small amounts of GLA. As we age, however, the activity of the D6D enzyme declines, leading to lower levels of GLA. This increases our need to get GLA on a daily basis through supplementation for optimal health.
